Flu vaccines have arrived.  As always they come in two forms, nasal spray and injection.  They are once again recommended for all children 6 mos of age and above, as well as any family members of infants or asthmatic patients, who are considered more high risk.

As always, we will be scheduling flu clinics throughout the fall to begin vaccinating patients and families.  Stay tuned for more information.  However, if you would like to receive your vaccines before the clinics begin, you may call to schedule an appointment for your family at any time.  You may do this by calling our main number at 847-501-4040 and scheduling a nurse visit for flu vaccine administration.

Yes, it is now officially February.  In years past, February is the busiest time with the highest number of sick children.  Currently, we are seeing many illnesses swirling around the Winnetka area and northern suburbs of Chicago.  These include Influenza A, Influenza B, Gastroenteritis ("stomach flu"), Parainfluenza (often seen as "croup"), Strep throat, Pneumonia, RSV, Ear Infections, Conjunctivitis ("pink eye"), and more... all of which means it is especially important to wash hands frequently, eat healthy foods, get enough rest, and cover your mouth if you are coughing.  As always, we are around if you have any questions!

As many of you know, the flu vaccine for 2010-2011 flu season is already here.  Many children (and some parents) have been getting their flu vaccines at their yearly check-ups, which is great.  The other option is at our family-friendly flu clinics, which are a great and easy option to quickly get the entire family vaccinated against the influenza virus.  We have set our October flu clinic schedule, which is as follows:
  • October 5, October 14, October 16, October 19, October 21, and October 26
  • you may call the front desk anytime to schedule for these clinics at 847-501-4040...
  • ...and yes, we are happy to vaccinate parents as well
One final note: this years influenza vaccine is a COMBINATION VACCINE, covering BOTH the H1N1 strain AND the typical yearly expected strains of influenza.
Thanks!

Every year we get many questions about flu clinics and when the flu vaccine is available.  This year, we have already received some shipments of vaccine, and we are beginning scheduling flu clinics for September.  The current dates of the first set of clinics are: September 8 (3p-5p), Sept 14 and 16 (4:30p-6:30p), Sept 18 (9a-12:15p), and Sept 21 and 23 (4:30p-6:30p).  You may now call the front desk to reserve a spot in those clinics, for either the Flu mist or the Flu injection vaccine.  Please note, if your child did NOT receive any H1N1 vaccine last year, it is recommended that they receive 2 doses of vaccine this year, regardless of previous vaccinations.  Please ask your physician if you have any further questions.  Thanks!
